Noah - The Goalie

These pictures crack me up. The other day when Ammon came home, Noah and I were out in the yard playing. I wasn't feeling well... I've been getting headaches lately. I got them when I was pregnant with Noah too but, I can't seem to get rid of them easily. So, Ammon comes home and says, "Let's all go to the park!" I really didn't feel like it but there was no way that I was going to pass up the chance to have a family outing. We all hop in the car and when we got to the park, I sat on the bleachers and the view I had was cracking me up! Noah assumed the position of goalie while Ammon took shots. Click on the pictures to make them bigger... The last one is where Noah got caught in the net. Silly kid.

The Simple Things In Life

(Posted by Ammon)

After all the things that ran through your head when you read the title, I'm sorry to tell you they were all wrong. I am going to blog about how people don't use their brains and think of the simple things.

Most of the people that know me know that I am pretty handy with computers and so I get a lot of people coming to me asking me "How do I do this" or "How do I fix that." I don't mind these questions because if you don't ask, you might not ever know. What does bother me is how many times "restart your computer," and "push all the connections in tight," is the answer. Most of the time when people ask me how to do something, I either know how from googleing it or I go google it and then tell them how.

I have often wondered who is smarter, the person that can spend all day on a problem and figure it out or the guy that can go google the answer in less that 5mins. Google has made me seem smarter than so many people just because I am smart enough to go find the answer. There is a saying that smart people surround themselves with people that are smarter then they are. Imagine how smart the person is that can google…..

I know a lot of my friends/family are going to read this and know that they have done this. I want you to know that I don't mind you asking me questions on how to do something or how to fix something. Just don't get mad at me when I ask you to restart your computer or check your connections. Also check out google.com. You never knew you were so smart.

"More Please"

Noah loves candy! He would eat candy all day if we would let him. This bowl of peanut m&m's was what motivated him to learn how to climb up on the kitchen chair. As soon as he got up there he started signing, "more please" over and over. He's adorable... After this picture was taken, we taught him the sign for candy and he asks for it ALL the time. :-)

The Birds and the Bees

I got up this morning kissed my wife and left for work and realized something. Boys and girls are different. Yes I know, boys pee standing up and girls sit down. I quickly learned to put the seat down because for some reason girls don’t like the splash of cold water in the morning when they are half asleep. This is not here nor there because I’m talking about the differences in our programming. I am not going to spend the time to find all the references to back up my points because I’m at work and do have to get something done today. Bear with my assumptions that you have not lived under a rock all your life.

On my mission, and on many others, the hardest part was your companion. This is because you are stuck with someone 24-7 and truest me you are different. You have different up bringing, different experiences, and different ideas. Yet you both have the same goal of bring other unto Christ. You are able to work through the difference, or even build on the differences to move forward Gods work. I learned very quickly to adapt, tolerate, and complement these differences. I spend two years doing this so when I got married and started another 24-7 relationship I had a little experience on what to expect and how to react.

When I met Jess I noticed right away some of the differences between us. She was a girl and I was a boy. You can tell right there college was teaching me something. The magnitude this very first difference I notices, one that everyone notices, didn’t reveal itself until much later. I was very happy with this difference. She wouldn’t be very hot if she looked like me. I liked this difference enough that I went through a lot to get to know Jess more and later marry her.

I saw in Jess all the attributes of what I wanted in a wife, mother, and eternal companion. It is not hard to believe that these attributes contribute to the differences in our programming but we did have the same goals. I knew what I brought to the table and where I fell short. Jess not only filled in the gaps I left but brought so much more to the relationship that I knew I had to have her. If any of you know the story our courtship you know that I had to have something driving me to get through it all. The motivation I had was that I knew Jess would be the perfect match for me.

Now I could go on to describe all the differences and likenesses between Jess and I but that would take to long. I want to focus more on some general differences that might apply to more people then just the two of us and see if I can being some enlightenment. Like I stated in the opening paragraph boys and girls are different. God has given us different roles to fill here on earth. These roles go deeper then just I kill the bugs and she cleans up the bugs. This is what I realized as I kiss my beautiful wife who was sleeping in our warm conferrable bed, and then left her to come to work for 8 hours.

I think this is a good place to interject and make a disclaimer that I am not trying to say that women can’t do this or that I have some great hardship. There are a lot of women that work and men that have it harder than I do. Again this is not my point so move on.
As I left my wife this morning I starting thinking about why I am able to do this. I don’t want to leave my wife, I love her, and I picked her to spend all of eternity with, why would I want to leave her to go to work? Any man can tell you that he doesn’t leave for work because he wants to get away from his wife. If he does then he need more help then this little bit is going to do.

I thought about if I had to love my wife less then she loved me to be able to leave her day after day. Of course that isn’t true. I love her more than anything. I thought about how she got to stay home and sleep in. Spend all day with our amazing son Noah. How she didn’t have to be at work, being nice to stupid people, spending 8 hours doing things for people that are not the ones I want to be with or doing things for. How am I able to do this day after day? Well boys and girls are different.

Jess loves her family very much. She shows this love in many ways. I too love my family very much and show this love in many ways. These ways are different. They have to be or else this wouldn’t work as well. God programmed woman to be nurturing, caring, and gentle. This does not mean that I cannot be those things but Jess has a lot bigger capacity for them. I know that Jess could not get up and leave her family day after day. I’m not even sure she could spend 8 hours away from Noah without having a nervous breakdown.

I love my family just as much as Jess does. I can love them just as much without showing it the same way. This is the difference that is so important to understand. If I loved my family the same as Jess does then neither one of us would be able to leave for work or fulfill the roles we have. I am so glad that Jess loves her family the way she does. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

It is important to realize the differences in how each other is able to love. Don’t think because I don’t show my love the same way Jess does that I don’t love just as much. Realize that these differences are what make us work so well together. Understand that she loves a certain way and look for love in that same way. Also understand that because I love differently that I might not show it the same way Jess would. My experience on my mission has helped me to know and understand this in my marriage. I take the difference in the way Jess loves our family and the way I love our family and adapt, tolerate, and complement it.

It is also important that you realize understand that showing my love differently doesn’t mean I love any less. Know that because you would show your love in another way does not mean that your way is better. When you expect to be loved the same way you love, you will often find yourself searching. This is where time helps. The longer you’re married the more time you have to adapt.

Once you have adapted to the way the other loves you won’t even realize it any more. That is why it hit me so hard this morning. I didn’t realize how different Jess and I show our love. We work so well together that it doesn’t seem be an issue. Don’t get me wrong Jess and I still have those moments where we don’t understand why the other is acting or feeling the way they are or why they aren’t acting or feeling the way we would. Don’t look at someone and think to yourself that they should be doing this or saying that if they really love you. You might just be projecting the way YOU would act or what YOU would say to show your love. I am not saying that you should take everything the other does as an act of love. I don’t know why people take a rule and try to apply the exceptions to it. If your husband is beating you it is not because he loves you.

Anyway, in closing I want to let you and my wife know that I am very much in love with her. That even though I show my love differently I still love her with all my heart. Know that even though I don’t always do things the way you would do them that I am doing the best I can.

My Baby...

is SO OLD!! This is Noah at 18 months.

Watching Sesame Street

Noah LOVES Sesame Street! We downloaded a few free episodes on our iTunes and I think he would watch them all day if we let him. He says Elmo and and when an episode is over, he signs, "more". He has a cup with Elmo on it and when he wants it he says, "Elmo juice". Cute! I loved Sesame Street as a kid. I wonder if I ever looked like this while watching it.

A Poem from the Hubby...

Jess is the best

She looks good in sweats

She looks good in a dress

Her smile brightens my day

Her embrace makes all worries go away

Jess know that I love you

What I would do without you

I love you more than a little

I love you more than a lot

I love you with all I’ve got.

Noah's New Furniture?

With a new baby coming, Noah is in need of some new furniture. A bed for sure and places to put his clothes and toys. I was searching around IKEA and found this set! I think I love it... It would be like walking into a cartoon every time we went into his room. The proportions aren't right in these pictures.

Here is the bed

And the Bedside Table

Nana & Poppy

This picture isn't the greatest of the boys. At least not Noah... He woke up really sick that morning but I'm so glad we have a picture like this! I'm really not sure when these boys will be together again. Especially with younger siblings on the way for both of them! Michelle and Toby picked Noah and me up on a Thursday and we drove up to H'burg. We had so much fun and these boys LOVE their grandparents! If my dad was ever in the house, Noah thought that he should be holding him or playing with him. I'm really not sure why he is so attached to my dad but it sure was cute to watch. We were able to stay for almost a week and while it was so hard to be away from Ammon, I'm glad we were able to make the trip! Thanks to Nana and Poppy for having us! Noah and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Harrisonburg's Children's Museum

This was so much fun! Mom, Michelle, Noah, Toby and myself all went to the Children's Museum during our visit to Harrisonburg. This place is downtown, right on court square. It was such a cool place. It was so fun to see the boys in this element. Noah loves methodical play and he really likes to figure things out. Everything has a system and he can do the same thing over and over and over. It is so awesome to see him learn while he's playing. He found a box of blocks and played with those for awhile. Then Nana showed him a box of these magnet sticks and magnetic balls. Mom said he could've stayed there the entire time just playing with the magnets. Toby on the other hand wanted to see and touch everything all at once. It was so fun to follow him around and to see him get excited about every new thing he saw. You'll have to click on the image to be able to see some of the fun things they were able to do. They played in the garden, in the toddler barn. I tried to get Noah to climb the rock wall so we could show his daddy... he wasn't really into that. They went shopping for fruit, and found a ramp to run up and down. Michelle and I posed for a picture while we were in the barn. It wasn't until we were looking through the pictures that we noticed the lovely caption of, "cow". (enlarge the image to see what i'm talking about) We all had so much fun. I wish we had a place like that here in Mayberry... Oh well, I guess we'll just have to visit the 'burg a little more often! :)

Bath Time - Noah & Toby Style

These pictures were taken from our trip up to Virginia.

Nana and Poppy gave the boys a bath and Noah absolutely LOVED it!

Noah was playing a game with Nana. He would cover his ears, yell for a little bit, then uncover his ears, laugh...

and then SPLASH!

Reunited!

I'll write more about my trip to Virginia later but I wanted to write this down before I forget. Ammon and I are so in love. We don't argue much and we work hard at our marriage. It was terribly hard for us to be away from each other for a week. When I got home, he squeezed me so tight. It felt like that's where I wanted to stay forever. As I pulled away, he said, "I don't want to let go because you might leave again." It was so sweet and I love that he loves me like he does. I'm definitely a lucky girl. I wonder what he'll think about this post... He probably wants you all to think that he's a tough guy when really he's a big softy. Ü

"I wasn't done yet!"

Noah went down for a nap at noon today. I laid down around 1:30 but was woken up a few times by the wind against the windows. It was getting pretty loud. Around 3:00 Noah woke up and started whining. After a few minutes, I went in to go get him. I mean 3 hours... that should be long enough for a nap, right? Normally when I go get him from his naps, he's standing up holding onto his blanket waiting for me. This time, I go in and he's still laying down on his pillow. He sees me and then says, "No!" So, I gave him his blanket and then left. It's now 30 minutes later and he hasn't made a sound. I guess he wasn't done... I called Ammon at work to tell him the story and he laughed and then said that it's like trying to wake me up! Yeah... can't argue with that. I like my sleep. This kid cracks me up every single day! Love...

Saturday, February 9, 2008

Most of you probably already know this...

I'm 13 weeks pregnant! And I blame this pregnancy for my lack of blogging lately. I sleep a lot. We are super excited to have 2 children and look forward to August when he/she gets here. I've felt good for the most part. I can't really complain too much. I know plenty of people who have much worse symptoms. August 16th is my due date and ironically, that is the same due date as my sister, Michelle. Yep! Michelle is pregnant too and we have the exact same due date! Crazy, huh? We told each other when we found out but kept it secret from everyone else until we were both able to go to the doctor around 8 or 9 weeks. It was so fun to keep it secret but still be able to talk to Michelle about it. But now, I love telling everyone that I'm expecting again. I think Noah senses it because he's gotten pretty clingy to me lately. He'll have to learn to share. So, that's my news! Wahoo! Now we just have to find a name that Ammon and I agree on...

One of my New Year's Resolutions is to complete at least one scrapbook page per week. I'll be posting my finished projects here to keep track of what I've done. I still haven't done one this week so, that will be my focus today. Wish me luck!

No one fear, Ammon is here!

Ok, so Jess said that I never post and so she laid claim to our blog. I thought I would post and reclaim my part. :-)
I thought I would start off my posts with a joke. I hear starting out with a joke is the way to go. If you know me at all, you know that I like intellectual discussions so I found a joke that would incorporate the two.

With that I would like to share a quote with you:

"both warming and cooling occurred numerous times before the Industrial Revolution. Similarly, all the dire predictions of global-warming consequences - sea-level rise, for example - have happened in the past. In fact, the greatest warming period was when dinosaurs walked the land (about 70 million to 130 million years ago). There was then five to 10 times as much CO2 in the atmosphere as there is today, and the average temperature was 4-11 degrees Celsius warmer. Those conditions should have been very helpful to life, since they permitted those immense creatures to find an abundance of food and they survived. "

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1350746/posts

I would love to have someone try and prove the whole "global warming" thing to me. Just a warning though, make sure you know what you are talking about before you start talking.
